The Edo State Government has firmly dismissed circulating rumors suggesting that local government workers are being owed salaries due to an alleged crisis within the councils.
In a press statement issued in Benin City, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Fred Itua, labeled the rumors as both false and mischievous, aimed at misleading the public. He urged citizens to disregard the falsehoods, attributing them to individuals envious of the achievements of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration since its inception in November 2024.
Reiterating Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to workers’ welfare, Mr. Itua assured that no government worker, including those at the local government level, is owed any salary, with payments up to January 2025 duly settled.
“This administration has maintained a flawless record in paying salaries despite the setbacks in allocation payments due to the ongoing legal disputes with local government chairmen,” Itua stated.
He further highlighted Governor Okpebholo’s pragmatic approach to governance, ensuring that no Edo State worker faced undue hardship. The government reaffirmed its dedication to sustaining this commitment despite challenges.
Edo State residents are advised to seek verified information from official channels and disregard unfounded rumors aimed at creating unnecessary panic.
