The Federal Government has inaugurated the principal officers of newly established federal tertiary institutions and the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system.
The inauguration, led by the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, covered leadership appointments for the Federal University of Science and Technology Epe in Epe and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic Abuja.
According to Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the appointments demonstrated the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education, enhancing teacher education, and positioning Nigerian institutions as centres of research and innovation.
Dr. Alausa explained that these institutions were strategically established to tackle critical national and global challenges, including food security, climate change, renewable energy, and technological advancement.
The Minister also tasked the NCCE leadership with strengthening governance across colleges of education and promoting high academic standards within Nigeria’s teacher education system.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its dedication to improving institutional leadership, reinforcing governance frameworks, and implementing policies aimed at enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
