The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, has called for strict adherence to procurement regulations within the ministry, warned directors and officials against any breach of due process in the handling of government contracts.
Enitan gave the directive while presiding over a meeting of the Ministerial Tenders Board in Abuja, where he urged directors and board members to uphold the highest standards of diligence, transparency and accountability in all procurement processes.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, who noted that the Permanent Secretary emphasised the importance of strict compliance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2007 and other established guidelines governing public sector procurement.
According to Enitan, the Ministerial Tenders Board plays a critical statutory role in ensuring that procurement procedures within the ministry are conducted transparently and in line with due process.
He therefore urged members of the board to demonstrate professionalism, objectivity and meticulous attention when reviewing memoranda and submissions presented before them.
The Permanent Secretary also disclosed that concerns raised during a recent engagement with the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement further reinforced the need for strict compliance with procurement regulations across government institutions.
To strengthen institutional accountability, Enitan directed the Director of Procurement in the ministry to ensure that all proceedings of the board are properly documented and duly endorsed to maintain accurate official records.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to strengthening procurement oversight and promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
