The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has felicitated with Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the occasion of the Eid-el-Adha celebration, urged all Nigerians to embrace tolerance and environmental responsibility as key values for national development.
In a goodwill message to mark the Sallah festivities, Issa-Onilu emphasized the importance of tolerance in fostering peaceful coexistence and national cohesion, especially in a culturally diverse country like Nigeria.
The DG said “Tolerance is a core national value that strengthens our unity and unlocks the collective potential of our people.
“By embracing one another’s differences and promoting understanding, we can build a society anchored on peace and mutual respect.”
He further urged Nigerians to be conscious of their environment by adopting sustainable practices and supporting climate action. He noted that environmental awareness is crucial in preventing disasters such as flooding, citing the recent challenges experienced by residents of Mokwa Community in Niger State.
“As we celebrate this sacred occasion, let us recognise our responsibility towards the environment. Let us work together to prevent flooding, protect our communities, and promote sustainable practices that ensure a safer and more resilient future for all,” he said.
The DG also highlighted the efforts of the Agency in promoting national values through the recently developed National Values Charter. The Charter outlines a reciprocal commitment between government and citizens, with tolerance and environmental awareness identified as integral components of the Citizen Codes.
Mallam Issa-Onilu encouraged Muslim faithful to reflect the spirit of Eid-el-Adha by promoting peace, compassion, and forgiveness in their daily interactions, stressing that such virtues are vital to building stronger communities and a more united nation.
The NOA boss wished all Nigerians a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration.
