The Niger State Police Command has announced the deployment of over 5,000 personnel across the state to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, directed all Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical units to intensify intelligence-led policing and carry out raids on identified blackspots ahead of the festivities.
The CP also ordered the mobilisation of operational assets, including anti-riot water cannons, gun trucks, and patrol vehicles, to enhance visibility policing and maintain a strong security presence before, during, and after the celebration.
According to the Command, specialised units such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN), Tactical Support Team (TST), Monitoring Unit, Crack Squad, Anti-Thuggery Unit, and Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) will be strategically deployed to Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, amusement parks, and other public places across the state.
An operational order has also been issued to ensure effective coordination, adequate supervision of deployed officers, and smooth traffic flow at designated prayer grounds.
The Police Command advised residents, parents, and guardians to celebrate responsibly and keep a close watch on their wards, warning that acts of thuggery and public disorder will not be tolerated.
While extending Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in the state, CP Elleman urged adherence to the values of sacrifice, love, and tolerance exemplified during Ramadan, wishing all faithful a joyous and peaceful celebration.
