The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who conveyed the Federal Government’s congratulations to Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the minister urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the holy month. He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness and charity to the less privileged, in line with the spirit of Eid.
The statement, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
Eid-ul-Fitr is a major Islamic festival celebrated worldwide with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity, symbolising gratitude, renewal, and communal harmony following a month of fasting and spiritual devotion.
