The Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has announced plans to confer honorary doctorate degrees on the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zach Adedeji; and Chairman of the Governing Board, Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar.
The university’s decision was conveyed in a letter signed by its Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole, stating that the honorees were selected in recognition of their contributions to national development. The conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place during EKSU’s convocation on March 29, 2025.
According to the letter, the Senate Leader will receive a Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) for his outstanding contributions to legislative development, governance, and the advancement of the university.
“I have the pleasure to inform you that the Governing Council and Senate of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, have resolved to honour you with the conferment of an honorary degree, Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa), at the forthcoming convocation scheduled to take place on March 29, 2025.
The conferment of the degree is purely in recognition of Senator Bamidele’s significant contributions to the development of this university, our dear country, and the international community.”
In a statement issued by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Bamidele expressed appreciation to the university’s leadership for the recognition. He described the honour as a call to greater service and pledged to use his position to further promote the rule of law, enact pro-people legislation, and support national development.
Before this latest recognition, Bamidele had been conferred with honorary degrees by two other institutions: Doctor of Public Law (Honoris Causa) by the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) on February 11, 2024, and Doctor of Public Administration (Honoris Causa) by Joseph Ayo Babalola University on January 23, 2023.
Both universities cited his unwavering commitment to legislative excellence and national peacebuilding as key reasons for the honours.
The upcoming EKSU convocation is expected to attract notable dignitaries from across the country, as the institution celebrates academic excellence and outstanding contributions to society.
