Security experts and civil society organisations have hailed the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for spearheading reforms that have strengthened the fight against illegal mining in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by CSC Babawale Afolabi, National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, following the National Stakeholders and Civil Society Summit held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja. The summit brought together senior government officials, civil society leaders, and security agencies to discuss key security challenges, including terrorism, oil theft, violent extremism, illegal mining, and human rights violations.
Represented by ACC Attah John Onoja, Prof. Audi outlined the Corps’ achievements through the establishment of the Mining Marshals, whose intelligence-driven operations have disrupted illegal mining across several states, safeguarded mineral resources, boosted government revenue, and promoted local economic development.
He stressed that the war against illegal mining requires collective effort beyond security agencies, urged traditional rulers, communities, and civil society to join in safeguarding the nation’s mineral wealth.
The summit ended with a consensus that empowering institutions such as the NSCDC is crucial to protecting Nigeria’s mineral resources, strengthening economic stability, and securing the nation’s future.
