Factional PDP’s claims on LG Secretariat Attacks Baseless, Says APC

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations made by a factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Aziegbemi, accusing Governor Monday Okpebholo of orchestrating attacks on three Local Government Area (LGA) headquarters in the state.

In a statement issued by the APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, the party described the accusations as “baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.” The PDP faction had alleged that Governor Okpebholo deployed armed thugs to seize control of the council headquarters in defiance of court orders.

Tenebe refuted these claims, attributing the violence to internal disputes within the local councils and the PDP faction. “Our investigation has shown that the incidents were caused by rival factions within the councils and the PDP itself, struggling for control and dominance,” Tenebe said.

He further emphasized that Governor Okpebholo has consistently adhered to court orders and maintained a commitment to the rule of law. “The Governor’s administration has been engaging with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the councils are run peacefully and democratically,” the APC Chairman added.

Tenebe condemned the allegations as a smear campaign against the Governor, stating, “The claims are reckless, irresponsible, and aimed at misleading the public. Governor Okpebholo’s record of good governance, transparency, and accountability speaks for itself.”

The APC also questioned the credibility of Tony Aziegbemi, alleging that his past actions, including a controversial kidnapping incident, undermined his moral authority to make such accusations.

The party called on the public to disregard the PDP’s claims, urging them to rely on credible and evidence-based information.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration, the APC noted, remains focused on resolving conflicts within the councils and ensuring the well-being of Edo State residents.

The statement concluded with a firm commitment to uphold the principles of good governance and democracy in Edo State.
