The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has unveiled activities for its 2025 Press Week scheduled to hold from Friday, July 18 to Friday, July 25, 2025, with prominent dignitaries billed to attend.
This year’s celebration is themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy & Society,” and is designed to promote dialogue on the evolving media landscape, professional ethics, and the pivotal role of journalism in democratic governance.
The weeklong programme will commence with a special Muslim prayer at NASFAT Mosque, Utako, by 2:00 PM on Friday, July 18, followed by a Free Medical Check-Up for journalists at the NUJ FCT Secretariat, Utako, on Saturday, July 19, from 9:00 AM.
On Sunday, July 20, a Thanksgiving Service will hold at Word Harvest Church, Jikwoyi, by 9:00 AM, and a symbolic ‘Walk for Press Freedom’ will take place on Monday, July 21, starting by 7:00 AM from the VIO Office, Berger Roundabout, Abuja.
A major highlight of the Press Week will be the Public Lecture on Tuesday, July 22, at Borno Rivers Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, starting at 9:00 AM.
The lecture will feature the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, as Keynote Speaker, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, will serve as Guest Speaker.
Former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, will chair the occasion.
The event continue on Thursday, July 24, with a Community Service Project and the Inauguration of Press Clubs in selected schools within the FCT.
The grand finale will hold on Friday, July 25, with a Jeans Party at the NUJ FCT Secretariat, Utako, by 3:00 PM, providing an opportunity for members to unwind, network, and celebrate the union’s achievements.
The NUJ FCT Council, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, urged members of the press, media stakeholders, and the general public to participate actively in the week’s activities.
