The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has advised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), FCT Council, to reconsider and reschedule its planned protest slated for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, citing security concerns.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command said it was aware of the proposed peaceful demonstration and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens’ constitutional rights to lawful assembly and protest.
However, the police disclosed that intelligence reports indicated plans by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and other non-state actors to infiltrate and hijack the protest, with the potential to disrupt public peace and safety.
According to the Command, the appeal for rescheduling is in the overriding interest of public security and aimed at preventing any breakdown of law and order in the nation’s capital.
“The measure is intended to safeguard lives and property, while ensuring that the rights of other residents to safety, freedom of movement, and lawful activities are not compromised,” the statement noted.
The FCT Police Command also assured residents of its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across the territory.
It urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the collective effort to promote a safe and orderly environment.
