The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two neighbours in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy following a violent domestic incident in the Byazhin area of Abuja.
Police authorities disclosed that the incident occurred late on February 12, 2026, when officers at the Byazhin Divisional Headquarters received a distress call at about 11:45 p.m. reported a serious altercation involving a teenager identified as Chidera Benjamin.
Operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager had allegedly attacked his mother during a domestic dispute. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from allegations that he had been transferring money from his mother’s bank account into his personal Opay account without her consent. When confronted over the alleged unauthorized transactions, the situation escalated, leaving the woman with severe injuries to her hand.
Further investigations indicated that two neighbours, Cosmos Okafor, 31, and Okechukwu Wisdom, 17, intervened after witnessing the altercation. The suspects allegedly assaulted the teenager during the confrontation, causing injuries that left him unconscious.
He was subsequently rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where medical personnel later confirmed him dead.
The suspects were promptly arrested and remain in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations and subsequent prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressed the importance of resolving disputes through lawful and peaceful means.
The Command also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order across the Federal Capital Territory.
