The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles (popularly known as okada) along highways and major roads, impounded 21 motorcycles and arrested their riders.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation was carried out on Thursday, January 8, 2026, by a joint team of police personnel under Operation Sweep and officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). The enforcement exercise covered key roads and corridors across the FCT, where commercial motorcyclists were found violating existing restrictions.
She explained that the clampdown forms part of a sustained inter-agency strategy aimed at reducing traffic-related crimes, curbing the use of motorcycles for criminal activities, and enhancing public safety within the nation’s capital.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to strictly enforce all security and traffic regulations designed to protect lives and property. He warned that defiance of the ban on commercial motorcycles along major routes would continue to attract firm enforcement actions.
CP Dantawaye further assured residents that similar proactive operations would be intensified across the six Area Councils of the FCT, while urging members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
