The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded major operational success in its ongoing crackdown on vandals, economic saboteurs, and drug-related offenders across Abuja.
The Command said the arrests followed months of intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing the rising spate of attacks on critical public infrastructure, including underground power cables, internet facilities, and drainage covers, which have caused disruptions to electricity supply, internet services, and public safety within the FCT and neighbouring states.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the operations were carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, with special focus on identified hotspots such as Mabushi, Maitama, and the Central Business District.
According to her, the coordinated raids and surveillance operations led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of 296 cut-to-size single-core armored underground power cables valued at ₦31.14 million, 171 drainage (manhole) covers, four portable cable pullers, two transformers, and 52 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
Adeh added that investigations were ongoing to track down other members of the criminal syndicates, including receivers and buyers of vandalised public assets, warning that anyone found complicit would be prosecuted in line with the law.
She urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police, stressed that public cooperation remains critical to sustaining security across the territory.
The FCT Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order within Abuja.
