The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismantled a notorious car-snatching and armed robbery syndicate operating across Abuja, arresting four suspects and recovered six stolen vehicles alongside over ₦15 million in cash proceeds.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the breakthrough followed days of coordinated intelligence gathering, digital forensic reconstruction, and sustained operations led by the Jabi, Gwagwalada, and Mabushi Divisions, complemented by the Command’s elite Scorpion Squad.
Preliminary operations by the three divisions yielded three stolen vehicles, while a meticulously executed follow-up investigation by the Scorpion Squad led to the arrest of additional suspects and the recovery of three more vehicles bringing the total to six.
Among the recovered vehicles are a black Toyota Prado SUV (2008), a grey KIA Optima (2009), and various models of Toyota Corolla and Camry linked to recent car thefts within the FCT. The Command also seized ₦15,280,000, believed to be proceeds from the resale of stolen vehicles.
Arrested suspects included an ex-convict, Dalhatu Bashiru; Nwadigo Emmanuel; Uchenna Kalu; and the alleged principal receiver, Alhaji Jazuli Adamu, who was apprehended in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State with the cash sum intended for the latest round of stolen vehicles.
Police investigations further revealed that Adamu allegedly works in concert with another receiver, Alhaji Abdulkarim Gabeida Ibrahim, a Niger Republic national said to be coordinating cross-border resale operations. He is currently on the run, and efforts are ongoing to track him down.
All suspects and exhibits are now in police custody as the Command intensifies efforts to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, commended the officers involved in the successful operation and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the territory. The CP assured Abuja residents that the Command remained steadfast in ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout the FCT.
