The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved bail of ₦500 million each for former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, his son, Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife, Bashir Asabe, with two sureties required per defendant.
Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the sureties must own property in high-profile Abuja districts, including Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa, and deposit their travel documents with the court. The Deputy Chief Registrar will verify the property documents, and the sureties must also swear affidavits of means.
Malami was further ordered to submit his travel documents and is prohibited from leaving the country without prior court approval.
The former AGF, currently remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, is standing trial alongside his son, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and his wife over alleged money laundering of ₦8.7 billion, a 16-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. All three pleaded not guilty during their arraignment on December 29, 2025.
The court had adjourned the hearing of the bail application to January 7, 2026, pending which the defendants remained in custody.
