The Forum for Oke Ogun Progress (FFOP) held its highly anticipated fourth annual Education Summit on December 28, 2024, with the theme “Enhancement of National Productivity Through Youth Empowerment in Nigeria.”
The virtual summit attracted a wide range of participants, particularly youth from universities across Nigeria, who gathered to discuss strategies for addressing the country’s declining productivity and the vital role of youth empowerment in national development.
The summit was marked by insightful contributions from distinguished discussants, including Prof. Taofeek Abdulazeez, a Professor of Communication and Language Arts at the University of Abuja, and Prof. Y.K. Yusuf, a Professor of English Language at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. Their discussions centered on how to improve national productivity through youth empowerment and education.
In a highlight of the event, FFOP also awarded scholarships to 15 outstanding students, furthering its commitment to supporting indigent but excellent students from Oke-Ogun, Oyo State. These students, selected from ten local government areas, will receive financial assistance from their first year to final year in university. This annual scholarship program has been providing much-needed support to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and promise.
Dr. Imran Saheed Adekunle, expressed the importance of education in shaping the future, quoting late leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Mallam Aminu Kano to underline the transformative power of education for both individuals and the nation.
He emphasized, “As leaders, the children of the poor you failed to train will never let your children have peace,” and “Nigeria will know no peace until the child of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
