The Federal Government has commended Babagana Umara Zulum for strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Borno State following the graduation of about 3,000 trainees from nine Vocational Enterprise Institutes and Centres across the state.
The commendation was conveyed in a statement on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, who said the initiative marked a significant boost to skills development and youth empowerment in the state.
According to the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, the programme represents a major step toward equipping young Nigerians with practical and employable skills. He noted that the graduates were provided with starter packs and a ₦100,000 entrepreneurship grant to support their transition into productive economic activities.
Alausa said the initiative aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritised youth empowerment and economic inclusion through skills development.
He further disclosed that the Federal Government is implementing a nationwide TVET programme aimed at providing about 250,000 training opportunities for Nigerian youths, adding that more than 180,000 trainees are already undergoing training in centres across the country.
The programme, he explained, adopted an 80 percent practical and 20 percent theoretical training model to ensure participants acquire industry-relevant skills.
The minister also revealed that the government is developing a national TVET job portal to connect skilled graduates with industries, while supporting artisans with starter packs and access to affordable loans.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to expanding skills development initiatives to promote youth empowerment and drive economic growth.
