The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday.
This was announced on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Christians on the occasion and urged them to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice, love, and redemption symbolized by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He further called on Nigerians to use the Easter period to pray for the peace, unity, and stability of the country, while reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at promoting national development.
The minister also encouraged citizens to show love and kindness to one another during the celebrations.
“Easter is not only a time for festivities but also a period to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season. We wish all Nigerians, especially Christians, a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration,” the statement read.
Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a pivotal event in Christianity that signifies victory over death and the fulfillment of divine promise. It concludes the Lenten season, a time of prayer, fasting, and reflection for many Christian faithful.
