In response to the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Gurara LGA, Niger State, which claimed over 80 lives, a Federal Government delegation led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, visited the scene on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the visit, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda delivered a heartfelt message, expressed the Federal Government’s condolences and support:
“It is with a heavy heart that I stand here today at Dikko Junction, where a tragic tanker explosion has claimed the lives of many of our compatriots. On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government, I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire community affected by this calamity.
“We are here to show solidarity and to assure you that the government is fully committed to supporting you during this difficult time. Immediate medical assistance is being provided to the injured, and we are coordinating with relevant agencies to deliver humanitarian relief to the affected families.
“This incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures, and the government is taking decisive steps to ensure such tragedies do not recur. We commend the swift response of the Niger State Government, emergency services, and local community members, whose courage and prompt action helped save lives.
“As we mourn the loss of our fellow citizens, we also stand together in hope and resilience, working towards a safer and more secure future for all Nigerians. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the injured recover swiftly.”
The delegation also visited Alhaji Muhammad Awwal Ibrahim, the Emir of Suleja, to convey the President’s condolences and assured the affected families of the government’s unwavering support. “The Federal Government is delivering urgent medical assistance, humanitarian relief, and is committed to enhancing road safety to prevent future tragedies”the Minister stated.
