The Federal Government has inaugurated a Steering Committee to spearhead preparations for the maiden National Council on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, inaugurated the Committee in Abuja on Thursday, stated that it would provide strategic oversight and coordination to ensure the Council delivers results in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubuβs Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritized human welfare, dignity, and resilience.
According to him, the Council, once fully operational, will set actionable strategies to confront insecurity, climate-related displacement, economic shocks, and structural poverty. He congratulated members of the Steering Committee, urging them to deploy their experience to guarantee a successful inaugural Council meeting.
The Committee is chaired by the Ministryβs Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, with the Director PRS , Mr. Onyiloye Adeola, serving as Secretary. Other members included senior directors from the Ministry, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire (SSA to the President on SDGs), Dr. Badamasi Lawal, Mrs. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, Hon. Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, and Hon. Ayuba Gufwan.
In his closing remarks,Mr. Meshack praised the Minister of State for his commitment to the success of the forthcoming Council meeting.
The inauguration marks a significant step towards institutionalizing a coordinated national framework to address humanitarian and poverty challenges across Nigeria.
