The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of ₦4 billion each to 12 selected universities for the rehabilitation of engineering and technology workshops, upgrade of laboratories, and installation of modern equipment under the TETFund Special High-Impact Intervention Project.
Inaugurating the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, described the intervention as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening practical training, boosting innovation, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities.
Alausa explained that the ₦4 billion allocation per institution is strictly dedicated to engineering and technology upgrades and is separate from the regular 2026 disbursements of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
According to him, the success of the initiative will not be measured merely by funds released but by the delivery of functional facilities, improved hands-on competencies among students, and the production of job-ready graduates capable of meeting industry demands.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to sustained infrastructure renewal in tertiary institutions. He noted that the intervention aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in revitalising the education sector to drive economic growth and technological advancement.
Beneficiary institutions included the Federal University of Technology Minna, Federal University of Technology Akure, Federal University of Technology Owerri, and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, among others.
The Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to transparency, strict adherence to procurement regulations, and measurable outcomes in the implementation of the intervention, stressing that the monitoring committee will ensure accountability and timely delivery of projects across the selected universities.
