The Federal Government, through the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), has officially launched the construction of its Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national housing agenda.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, was performed by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, at the site of the FHA Renewed Hope Estate along Airport Road, Uyo.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the FHA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for his unwavering support and collaboration with the Authority in realizing the housing project.
Hon. Ojo recalled that Governor Umo Eno had from the onset demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of his people, particularly in the area of affordable housing.
“I recall vividly that on May 2, 2024, when I led my management team to visit His Excellency to seek Akwa Ibom State’s collaboration in our Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, the Governor gave us the warmest reception and unparalleled encouragement,” Hon. Ojo said.
He noted that the Governor not only provided the FHA with a prime parcel of land free of charge, but also pledged full support to ensure the project’s success.
According to Ojo, the Uyo Renewed Hope Housing Estate marks the kickoff of the national housing programme, a testament to President Tinubu’s promise to provide affordable and livable homes for Nigerians.
“We are fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of renewing the hope of Nigerians by providing them with roofs over their heads in safe, comfortable, and affordable housing environments,” he added.
The FHA boss disclosed that procurement processes for similar housing projects across the six geopolitical zones have been concluded, with other groundbreaking ceremonies scheduled for Kaduna, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Adamawa States.
He emphasized that the Authority has also been completing and commissioning inherited projects, in line with the President’s directive that the era of abandoned housing projects is over.
“What we are doing in Akwa Ibom is not just building another estate but creating a livable, inclusive, and affordable environment that reflects FHA’s commitment to improving lives,” Ojo stated.
In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the Renewed Hope Housing programme and expressed gratitude to the FHA for choosing Akwa Ibom as the kickoff point.
He assured continued support for the project and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to attract more federal investments to the state.
“We welcome every initiative that brings development to our people. Our civil servants are at the heart of government, and that’s why we are investing in housing from the Aviation City to the Judicial and Legislative housing schemes,” the Governor said.
Governor Umo Eno also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been allocated 50 hectares of land in the state for its own housing project, underscoring Akwa Ibom’s commitment to national development partnerships.
