The Federal Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian child, regardless of disability, gender, background, or circumstance, has equal access to quality education.
The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, made this known on Monday, July 22, 2025, at a stakeholders’ sensitization workshop on the National Policy on Inclusive Education, held in Abuja.
The event, themed “Strengthening Inclusive Education for Equitable Learning in Nigeria,” was organised by the National Working Committee on Inclusive Education in collaboration with the Basic Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Professor Ahmed stressed the importance of building an inclusive education system that leaves no child behind.
“This workshop presents an opportunity to reflect on the progress made so far, identify the gaps, and design sustainable strategies that will ensure a truly inclusive education system in Nigeria,” she stated.
She acknowledged several persisting challenges such as low awareness, inadequate infrastructure, insufficient teacher training, and weak policy implementation, but reaffirmed the government’s resolve to address them.
In her remarks, the Director of the Basic Education Department and Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Inclusive Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Folake David, emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to fully implementing and domesticating the policy across the country.
She urged all stakeholders including government agencies, civil society organizations, parents, and caregivers to deepen their commitment and engagement in promoting inclusive education.
Dr. David also stressed that the workshop outcomes would guide the development of actionable strategies to enhance inclusive learning environments nationwide.
