The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction is set to partner with the Federal Government Technical Working Group (FG-TWG) on Sustainable Development and Safety Net to empower Nigerian women, youth, and children through the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Centre.
The collaboration was discussed when a delegation from the FG-TWG, led by its Executive Director and Project Coordinator, Dr. M.A. Ibrahim, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, in Abuja on Monday.
According to a statement by Iliya Rhoda Ishaku, Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim explained that the proposed centre, to be named Senator Oluremi Tinubu Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Centre, will serve as a world-class incubation hub designed to harness the potentials of exceptionally gifted Nigerian youths, women, and children.
Dr. Ibrahim noted that the centre will be domiciled at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), leveraging the institution’s nationwide reach to deliver e-learning and technology-driven empowerment across the country. He added that the initiative emerged from consultations with key stakeholders including the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) and NOUN, with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction designated as the line ministry.
“The centre is aimed at positioning Nigeria at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies while creating employment opportunities and driving human capital development,” Dr. Ibrahim stated.
In his response, Dr. Sununu commended the Technical Working Group for the initiative and assured the Ministry’s full support and cooperation to ensure the project’s success.
