The Federal Government has launched the Presidential Initiative on Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), a welfare scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to both academic and non-academic staff of Nigeria’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, in a statement, said the initiative is another testament to President Bola Tinubu’s vision of progressive investment in education and the welfare of those who drive the sector. He noted that TISSF reflected the administration’s commitment to improving staff well-being and enhancing the quality of education nationwide.
The scheme, unveiled on Wednesday, offered interest-free loans of up to N10 million, with a maximum repayment period of five years and a one-year moratorium. The fund will support staff in meeting needs such as transportation, small-scale agro-business ventures, medical expenses, family support, accommodation, and academic advancement.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the official opening of the application portal — http://tissf.education.gov.ng and expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the scheme and other education-focused interventions. He described the TISSF as “another evidence of Renewed Hope in action,” adding that it complements the success of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) targeted at students.
According to Dr. Alausa, the initiative is a core component of the National Education Sector Renewal Implementation (NESRI) framework, with strict monitoring mechanisms to ensure transparency and effective implementation.
