The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has described the Federal Government’s approval of N48 billion for the upgrade of engineering workshops and laboratories in twelve selected universities as a commendable step toward strengthening technical education in the country.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the intervention is both timely and necessary, given the growing need for Nigerian graduates to acquire practical technological skills that meet modern industry demands.
TMV noted that the intervention would be used to rehabilitate and equip engineering workshops and laboratories with cutting-edge, industry-relevant facilities, aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical competence.
According to the group, the initiative will focus on the rehabilitation of engineering and technological faculties in the selected universities, while also supporting the upgrade of existing facilities and the construction of new engineering workshops where necessary.
“We believe that, based on the determination of President Bola Tinubu, this intervention will significantly enhance skills acquisition and contribute to economic diversification,” the statement said.
The group also aligned with the position of the Minister of Education, who described the project as a strategic, high-impact initiative designed to upgrade laboratories, workshops, and research facilities, while positioning Nigerian institutions as hubs of innovation and practical problem-solving.
TMV further expressed satisfaction with the Federal Government’s broader efforts to reposition the education sector, noting that the administration has also unlocked $552 million under the Hope-Edu programme to accelerate basic education reforms across the country.
It explained that the Hope for Quality Education for All programme, co-financed by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education, is designed to support measurable reforms in line with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.
The group added that these initiatives provide verifiable evidence of well-thought-out policies by the Tinubu administration aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education sector and enhancing human capital development.
