The management of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has dismissed a recent online publication by Sahara Reporters titled “FHA Staff Petition EFCC, Accuse Tinubu’s In-Law of Abuse of Office, Bragging About Being ‘Untouchable’”, describing the report as baseless, malicious, and the handiwork of disgruntled elements whose illicit activities have been disrupted by ongoing reforms within the agency.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, July 8, 2025, the FHA said while it would have ignored what it described as a piece of “irresponsible journalism,” it became necessary to set the record straight for the benefit of the general public.
According to the statement, the allegations reported by Sahara Reporters including claims of questionable property acquisitions, illicit contract awards, excessive hotel bills, abuse of land administration processes, and sidelining of the supervising minister are unsubstantiated and aimed at tarnishing the image of the Managing Director, Hon. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo.
“From all indications, this is a clear attempt by attention seekers, land grabbers, and fraudsters to fight back after the Authority under Hon. Ojo disrupted their illegal channels and blocked long-standing corrupt practices,” the statement said.
FHA noted that since assuming office on February 16, 2024, Hon. Ojo has introduced transformative measures that have enhanced transparency, increased revenue, and improved staff welfare across the agency.
Among his key reforms is the full digitization of FHA operations which began on May 1, 2024. This move, the Authority noted, ended decades of analog operations that facilitated file tampering, double allocations, and document forgeries.
“Under his leadership, all property files have been digitized, property verification has been enforced, and service delivery has become more efficient. Every FHA property nationwide has been identified using a MAX 350 drone, with all encroachments properly documented,” the management said.
To tackle development control abuse, Ojo constituted enforcement and revenue taskforces and personally led compliance monitoring exercises across the six geo-political zones.
The Authority also disclosed that it has acquired lands in 28 states mostly at no cost or with compensation paid and has ensured the protection of these investments through rigorous documentation and development control.
The reforms, FHA added, have led to a significant rise in internally generated revenue, which has translated into improved staff remuneration and prompt implementation of the new national minimum wage.
“FHA under Hon. Ojo is the first to connect all zonal offices in real-time, ensuring seamless communication across the country. Staff operate under the most conducive environment and undergo continuous training locally and abroad,” the statement added.
In a symbolic show of modesty, the management pointed out that Hon. Ojo and his team shun the traditional use of SUVs, opting instead for Hilux trucks as official vehicles.
“Contrary to the unfounded claims, the real staff of the FHA are solidly behind the current leadership, which has taken the agency from a state of decay to a dynamic, high-performing institution,” the statement concluded.
FHA described the report as a desperate attempt by internal and external forces whose access to corrupt practices have been shut down and reiterated its commitment to upholding transparency and delivering on its mandate.
