The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) on Saturday, April 13, 2025, commenced a three-day in-house workshop themed “Adapting to Change: Exploring Challenges and Breakthroughs in Housing Development Over the Past Year.”
The strategic session, a follow-up to the Authority’s July 2024 Retreat, was aimed at re-evaluating progress made in the last year, assessing the current state of operations, and planning the way forward.
Delivering the opening remarks and programme overview, the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, described the workshop as an internal forum designed to foster frank discussions and peer-driven insights drawn from staff members’ real-life work experiences.
He emphasized the importance of honest internal feedback over external appraisals, urging participants to ask questions and offer suggestions that can strengthen the Authority’s capacity and service delivery.
Hon. Ojo outlined key achievements of his administration, including:
- Full digitalization of FHA operations
- Improved internet services and live interconnectivity with zonal offices
- Conversion of the MD’s new office complex into staff offices
- Renovation of office facilities and provision of working tools
He also announced that permanent appointments have been granted to committed ad-hoc staff and persons with disabilities who have contributed to the Authority’s growth.
In the area of staff welfare, the FHA boss reiterated his commitment to creating a conducive work environment, stating: “I will rather resign than watch any of my staff assaulted without getting justice.”
On financial matters, Hon. Ojo expressed dissatisfaction with past practices where contractors allegedly dictated terms to the Authority. He stated that the current management has corrected those anomalies by reviewing statutory fees and prioritizing aggressive revenue mobilization.
“Revenue doesn’t come to you—you must go for it,” he said, revealing that his leadership has led direct enforcement drives to shore up the Authority’s income. The resulting financial improvements, he noted, have ensured regular salary payments, swift implementation of the minimum wage, and other incentives that have boosted staff morale and productivity.
He also noted the Authority’s revived interest in staff development and recreation, citing FHA’s participation in the Federal Civil Service Games and the registration of its football team in the 2025 Abuja Amateur League.
Looking ahead, Hon. Ojo announced the upcoming commissioning of key projects:
- 59 shops at the Gwarinpa Shopping Mall
- 100 housing units at FHA Estate, Ajoda, Ibadan
- Lugbe Shopping Complex in Abuja
He also confirmed payments to contractors handling the Bwari project in Abuja, and ongoing land reclamation efforts in Festac Town, Lagos.
He highlighted the activation of FHA’s Research and Innovation Department, which will now undertake structural integrity tests for both internal and external clients.
The workshop drew participants and speakers from the Federal Housing Authority and its subsidiaries FHA Mortgage Bank Ltd and FHA Energy Department.
