In a major move to institutionalize gender inclusivity, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) earlier this week officially launched the FIRS Gender Desk and the FIRS Women’s Network at a high-level event held in Abuja.
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, graced the occasion as the special guest and was warmly received by Dr. Dick Irri, Coordinating Director of the Medium and Government Taxpayers Group, who represented the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji. In his welcome address, Dr. Irri reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable workplace for all employees.
Delivering the keynote address, the Honourable Minister emphasized the critical role of institutional support in advancing gender equality. She praised the FIRS leadership for taking proactive steps to empower women and integrate gender-responsive policies across its operations.
The highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of the Gender Desk and the Women’s Network by Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim. The event also featured interactive discussions with key stakeholders, culminating in closing remarks by Angel Fadahunsi, Chairperson of the FIRS Gender Equality Committee, who expressed optimism about the future of gender-focused initiatives within the organization.
The FIRS Gender Desk and Women’s Network are expected to serve as strategic platforms for driving gender advocacy, mentorship, and professional development across the Service.
