The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, unveiled the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Digital Museum of Dynamic History and Television Studio at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Yakubu Gowon House, Maitama, Abuja. The landmark event celebrated the Scheme’s over 50-year legacy and its contributions to national unity, integration, and development.
In her address, Senator Tinubu commended the NYSC for its innovative strides and vital role in nation-building. She described the museum as a dynamic archive preserving the Scheme’s legacy while inspiring future generations.
Highlighting the pivotal contributions of corps members across sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, technology, and community service, she emphasized the NYSC’s role as a cornerstone of national identity and progress.
“I applaud the leadership of the NYSC for this forward-thinking initiative. This facility will not only preserve the rich history of the Scheme but also serve as a source of inspiration for young Nigerians and future leaders,” the First Lady stated.
The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, in a welcome address expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her presence and unwavering commitment to youth and national development, he described the digital museum as a hub for research, documentation, and cultural preservation.
“This facility reflects our dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s history while fostering innovation and patriotism among young Nigerians. It will serve as a repository of artifacts and memories, showcasing the invaluable contributions of corps members to nation-building,” Brigadier General Ahmed said.
In his goodwill message the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Akinwande, also lauded the NYSC for engaging over 480,000 youths annually and for its role in fostering unity in a nation where youth make up more than 70% of the population. He urged young Nigerians to leverage the facility for research and innovation, emphasizing the importance of unity and patriotism.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, represented by the FCT Minister of State,Maryam Bunkure, Wives of House Representatives Speaker,Imo State Governor,members of the National Assembly including Heads of Parastatals.
The event highlighted the collaborative efforts of government agencies and private organizations in supporting the NYSC’s vision.
