In a significant leadership transition, Comptroller F.O. Onyeka has taken over as the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Tincan Island Port Area Command. This followed the elevation of his predecessor, Comptroller D.A. Nnadi, mni, to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Comptroller Onyeka is expected to bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, with a strong academic background in Political Science and Public Administration, complemented by extensive training within and outside Nigeria. Known for his innovative approach and dedication to excellence, Onyeka has held key positions, including Officer in Charge of the Premier Port Gate and a pivotal role at Onne Port’s Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) Gate, where he was instrumental in driving revenue growth and operational efficiency.
In his inaugural address, Onyeka outlined his vision for the Command, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, consolidation, and innovation in aligning with the Comptroller General’s policy thrust. He vowed to build on the achievements of his predecessor, particularly in revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and infrastructure development.
“I believe in an all-inclusive leadership approach, and I urge all stakeholders to work together to uphold the legacy of excellence. He appealed to security agencies, freight forwarders, terminal operators, and the media to support the Command’s efforts in achieving trade compliance and enhancing port operations” Onyeka stated.
Meanwhile, ACG D.A. Nnadi in his farewell remarks, expressed gratitude to the officers and stakeholders for their cooperation during his tenure. He highlighted the Command’s accomplishments, including a revenue collection of ₦1.23 trillion in 2024, representing 86.8% of the Federal Government’s annual target. This mark a significant increase from the ₦716.5 billion generated in 2023.
The Command also recorded notable successes in anti-smuggling operations, with the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seized goods rising from ₦1.05 billion in 2023 to ₦4.51 billion in 2024, reflecting a remarkable increase of over ₦3.45 billion.
ACG Nnadi assured stakeholders of his continued support in his new capacity and encouraged all to provide full cooperation to the new CAC to sustain the Command’s growth trajectory.
