The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received in audience a delegation of the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) to discuss youth engagement, security initiatives, and diaspora-related collaboration.
The meeting, which took place on Friday, February 6, 2026, was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The delegation was led by Mr. Abraham Kwaghfan, a senior national official of CONYSSA, and was received on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
Mr. Kwaghfan presented an overview of the coalition’s mandate, activities, and proposed areas of partnership with the Ministry. He explained that CONYSSA, established in 2019 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2022, seek to complement Nigeria’s national security architecture by bridging the gap between youths and security institutions through advocacy, engagement, and preventive interventions.
He highlighted the organisation’s nationwide youth security and value-reorientation campaigns in the South-West, South-South, and North-West zones, as well as security summits on drug abuse, cybercrime, human trafficking, and extremism. Other initiatives include youth-focused mediation efforts to address extortion and rights violations involving security agencies, and sustained engagement with institutions such as the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission.
According to him, CONYSSA plan to extend its programmes to the North-East, South-East, and North-Central zones, with a proposed North-East security summit scheduled for Gombe State. He also noted that the coalition operates on a volunteer-driven model with extensive grassroots support from affiliated youth and civil society groups.
The delegation sought the Ministry’s partnership and institutional endorsement in areas of youth engagement aligned with Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, particularly in demography and diaspora relations. They also requested structured collaboration in engaging Nigerian youths in the diaspora to address welfare, image, and security-related challenges.
In his response, Mr. Ebienfa commended CONYSSA for its commitment to youth-focused security initiatives. He outlined the Ministry’s responsibilities in consular services and diaspora engagement, noting that Nigerian Missions abroad are adequately equipped to assist citizens in their host countries. He added that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission also plays a key role in supporting Nigerians overseas.
He advised the delegation to liaise with the Ministry for guidance and coordination when necessary and urged them to formally submit detailed proposals for their planned North-East programmes to enable proper consideration.
The engagement underscored the growing role of organised youth groups in addressing security, social orientation, and national image challenges. Observers noted that CONYSSA’s activities align with Nigeria’s foreign policy pillars on demography and diaspora engagement.
Subject to due diligence and formal submission of proposals, the Ministry indicated that structured collaboration with the coalition could enhance youth outreach at home and abroad, strengthen preventive engagement, and contribute positively to national security and image-building efforts.
