The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a public alert over the malicious creation of fake social media accounts impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Friday, August 22, 2025, the Ministry said the fraudulent accounts, particularly on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram, were being used to solicit financial favours, personal gains, and even make false promises of contract awards.
The Ministry stressed that Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed does not own or operate any personal social media accounts for official or professional purposes. It clarified that all authentic communications from the Office of the Permanent Secretary are disseminated strictly through the Ministry’s verified website (www.foreignaffairs.gov.ng) and official social media handles.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Permanent Secretary will never promise or make offers of contract awards or solicit funds and personal favours through social media or any unverified channel,” the Ministry stated.
The public and the diplomatic community were therefore urged to disregard any communications from such fake accounts and report them promptly to the relevant social media platforms for takedown, as well as to the Nigerian Police Force via the Cybercrime Unit.
According to the statement, the Ministry is working with security and regulatory agencies to investigate and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency and integrity.
