Foreign Relations Professionals hail NIDCOM’s Achievements, seek stronger partnership

The Association of Foreign Relations Professionals of Nigeria (AFRPN) has commended the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) for its contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy implementation and engagement with the diaspora.

 

President of AFRPN, Ambassador Garba A. Lawal, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja. He described NIDCOM as a strategic force in Nigeria’s diplomatic landscape and called for closer collaboration between both organizations.

 

Amb. Lawal also invited NIDCOM to participate in AFRPN’s upcoming Annual Conference, which he described as a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and forging partnerships to enhance diaspora engagement and national development.

 

“There is a need for both organizations to work closely in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, especially regarding the human element,” Lawal stated. He further urged NIDCOM’s management to encourage staff participation in AFRPN’s training programs to enhance their expertise in diaspora relations.

 

While responding, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa welcomed the partnership, stressing the importance of AFRPN’s insights in shaping NIDCOM’s policies. She noted that the Commission is preparing to review the National Diaspora Policy and look forward to AFRPN’s contributions.

 

Dabiri-Erewa said”We value the wealth of knowledge and experience that the Association of Foreign Relations Professionals of Nigeria brings to the table.We look forward to working closely with you and exploring opportunities for mutual growth and development.”

 

As part of the partnership, NIDCOM will participate in AFRPN’s mentorship and training programs to build the capacity of its staff for more effective diaspora engagement.

 

The AFRPN Annual Conference is scheduled for February 21, 2025, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf M. Tuggar (OON), as the host.
