In a bid to address the rising incidence of fire-related road crashes in Nigeria, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance emergency response and enforcement measures.
The collaboration, formalized at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, will focus on joint training of personnel, improved data sharing, and enhanced patrol operations to enforce fire safety compliance on Nigerian roads.
Speaking at the event, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Jaji Olola Abdulganiyu, emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He noted that the partnership will strengthen emergency response to fire-related crashes, ensuring swift intervention and mitigation.
On his part, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, described the partnership as a major step toward enhancing road safety. He stated that by combining expertise and resources, the two agencies aim to significantly reduce fire-related road crashes and prevent loss of lives and property.
As part of the initiative, personnel from both agencies will undergo specialized training on fire prevention, firefighting, and emergency response techniques. Additionally, the FRSC and FFS will implement joint patrols to enforce compliance with fire safety regulations, including the mandatory possession of fire extinguishers in vehicles.
The agencies will also strengthen data sharing mechanisms to improve response times and track fire-related incidents more effectively. This will enable better coordination in handling emergencies and developing proactive strategies to curb future occurrences.
The partnership set a precedent for inter-agency collaboration in Nigeria’s road safety management, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in tackling fire-related crashes.
