Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zaria, Kaduna State, have recovered and returned ₦3,727,500 and other valuables worth about ₦500,000 to victims of a fatal road crash along the Zaria–Funtua Highway.
The accident occurred on Sunday near Zaria Academy and involved a Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 conveying nine passengers. One person died at the scene, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
FRSC rescue teams responded promptly after receiving a distress call, provided first aid to the victims before evacuated the injured to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for medical treatment.
During the rescue and post-crash clearance operations, FRSC personnel discovered a large sum of money and other valuable items scattered at the crash site. The officers secured the cash and valuables to prevent loss and ensured they were properly documented.
On Monday, the Zaria Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander Nasiru A. Falgore, formally handed over the recovered ₦3,727,500 to the victims in the presence of their relatives and other witnesses.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended the officers for their integrity and professionalism, describing the gesture as a reflection of the Corps’ core values of honesty, accountability and service to humanity.
He also praised the Zaria Unit Commander and the operatives involved for maintaining high standards of discipline and transparency in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, the Corps will continue to strengthen a culture of accountability and professionalism among its personnel, stressing that integrity must remain the guiding principle for all officers in the course of their responsibilities.
Relatives of the victims expressed appreciation to the FRSC for safeguarding the money and other valuables, noting that the officers not only rescued the injured but also protected their property at a critical moment.
They pledged to promote road safety awareness and encourage responsible driving in their communities.
The development has further reinforced public confidence in the FRSC as an institution committed to protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads.
