The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles along the busy Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja, following the enforcement of its ongoing operation tagged Operation Safe Kugbo.
The initiative, which commenced on March 19, 2026, has led to the restriction of over 300 articulated vehicles and trucks from operating during peak traffic hours, significantly improving safety and traffic flow in the area.
The operation was conceived by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of proactive measures to reduce road crashes in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations and existing Federal Capital Territory traffic laws. It also supports the Corps’ 2026 strategic goal of reducing road traffic fatalities nationwide.
On the second day of the exercise, March 23, the Unit Commander of RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, led enforcement efforts that saw 96 articulated vehicles restricted during peak periods, bringing the total number to about 300 within a few days of the operation.
The FRSC noted that the zero-crash record recorded since the operation began highlights the effectiveness of strict enforcement and proactive traffic management, particularly in high-risk corridors with heavy vehicular movement.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Corps deployed adequate personnel, logistics, and real-time traffic monitoring systems, all contributing to improved compliance and safer road conditions.
The agency emphasized that the restriction is not intended to punish drivers but to safeguard lives and property, especially during periods when the presence of heavy-duty vehicles poses increased risks.
Motorists, fleet operators, and truck drivers have been urged to comply with the directive, as the Corps reiterated its commitment to sustaining the operation and extending similar safety measures to other critical routes within the FCT and across the country.
The FRSC reaffirmed its resolve to creating a safer motoring environment for all road users.
