The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a two-month jail term without the option of fine for a traffic offender arrested for driving against traffic during a special joint intervention patrol along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement issued on February 11, 2026, the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the conviction was handed down by the Ojodu-Abiodun Magisterial District Court following a coordinated enforcement operation launched on February 10, 2026, to curb the dangerous practice of one-way driving along the Kara–Opic axis of the corridor.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, had initiated the joint patrol in collaboration with the Ogun State Sector Command, Nigeria Police (Warewa, Ojodu-Abiodun and Isheri Divisions), TRACE, the Nigerian Army, and the Corridor Commander, following rising incidents linked to ongoing bridge expansion joint construction works on both inward and outward sections of the expressway.
During the operation, officers deployed to identified flashpoints intercepted one Koko Moses, driver of a Volkswagen bus with registration number MUS 89 YG, while driving against the flow of traffic. Further checks revealed that the offender was also operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
The offender was subsequently charged to court by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Warewa Police Station, CSP Ayegbede John. Upon arraignment, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment without the option of fine, underscoring authorities’ zero tolerance for traffic violations that endanger lives.
The intervention patrol recorded an immediate reduction in cases of one-way driving along the corridor, highlighting the effectiveness of sustained inter-agency collaboration and visible enforcement.
Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwumi Fasakin, commended the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, the Nigerian Army, TRACE, and other participating agencies for their prompt response and operational support.
The Corps Marshal also lauded the joint team for its coordination and leadership, reiterating that the FRSC remain committed to strict enforcement against traffic offenders nationwide. He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, cooperate with traffic management directives, especially during construction activities, and prioritise safety at all times.
