GOC 8 Division empowers Giginya cantonment women with 20 motorcycles

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has empowered women in Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto State, with 20 brand-new motorcycles to boost their economic independence.

The donation, aimed at enhancing income-generating activities among families of military personnel, is part of the GOC’s Barracks Women Empowerment Scheme designed to promote self-reliance and improve welfare within the barracks community.
Handing over the motorcycles at the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) Leisure Park, the GOC presented the items to the Cantonment Magajiya, stressed that the initiative reflected the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their dependants. He noted that the motorcycles would enhance mobility for women involved in petty trading, enabling them to access markets, manage logistics and expand their small businesses within and outside the cantonment.

The GOC further explained that the initiative aligned with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive to improve the morale and wellbeing of troops and their families through sustainable empowerment programmes. He also commended the Magajiya and other women leaders for their support to troops and their role in sustaining peace and harmony within the barracks.
Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Magajiya of Giginya Cantonment, Hajiya Amina Adamu, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, described it as transformative. She praised the GOC’s leadership and assured that the motorcycles would be distributed fairly and maintained responsibly to achieve the intended objectives.

The event was attended by formation commanders, senior officers, the Chairperson of the 8 Division NAOWA, members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), and families of military personnel. The ceremony ended with a symbolic handover of keys, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
