Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed profound sadness over the death of veteran journalist and National Treasurer of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria), Hajia Rafatu Salami, who passed away on Friday in Abuja.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo described the late Hajia Salami as an exemplary journalist, a compassionate mother, and a dedicated public servant whose legacy will continue to inspire many.
“As we mourn the passing of our sister and one of Nigeria’s outstanding female journalists, we take comfort in her remarkable achievements, unwavering integrity, and dedication to humanity,” the Governor stated.
Governor Ododo extended his condolences to Hajia Salami’s family, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the International Press Institute (IPI), and the management of Voice of Nigeria (VON), where she served as Assistant Director, Digital Media until her demise.
The late Hajia Rafatu Salami, a native of Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, passed away at the age of 55. She was buried on Friday at Gudu Cemetery in Abuja, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant her family the strength to bear the loss.
Hajia Salami’s passing marks a significant loss to the journalism community in Nigeria, where she was widely respected for her professionalism and contributions to the media landscape.
