Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has described his electoral victory in the September 2024 governorship election as a divine mandate to drive development and progress in the state.
Speaking at the Streams of Joy International Church in Abuja on Sunday, Governor Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to God for his victory, stating that his emergence as Governor was an answer to the prayers of the Edo people.
“I have come to return all the glory to God for the electoral victory He granted me. In 2023, I testified here as a senator, and today I stand before you again as the Governor of Edo State. This victory was not just political; it was divinely orchestrated,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo thanked Pastor Jerry Eze, the convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), for his prayers and support. He assured the congregation that he would honor his mandate by fostering unprecedented development and economic growth in Edo State.
Recounting his journey into politics, Governor Okpebholo noted his remarkable rise, having previously defeated the incumbent senator of Edo Central Senatorial District, ending the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) 24-year dominance in the region on his first attempt. His victory in the 2024 governorship election marked another significant political milestone, as he ended PDP’s reign in Edo State.
Governor Okpebholo called on worshippers to remain steadfast in their faith, emphasized that power is granted by God to serve and fulfill His purpose. He pledged to use his position to enhance the well-being of the Edo people.
The Governor’s rise in politics and his commitment to using his position for the betterment of Edo State continue to inspire many within and beyond the state.
