Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has inaugurated the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, with a strong call for the restoration of the institution’s lost academic excellence. The inauguration ceremony took place at the New Festival Hall of the Government House in Benin City on Tuesday, 4th February, 2025.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that education is the bedrock of development, and AAU has a pivotal role to play in advancing the state’s educational and developmental goals. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the university’s revival, highlighting significant efforts to support the institution, including a substantial increase in its monthly subvention from N41 million to N500 million.
The Governor was accompanied by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor; Chief of Staff, Gani Audu; former Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shaibu; former Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Prince Clem Agba; and former Oredo Representative, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, among other dignitaries.
Governor Okpebholo commended the newly inaugurated Council members, urging them to work with dedication, vision, and a deep sense of responsibility. He assured the university community, including staff and students, that his administration will continue to provide necessary support for the institution’s growth and transformation.
The Chairman of the newly inaugurated Council, Chief Dan Orbih, expressed gratitude to the Governor for entrusting them with the responsibility of steering the university back to prominence. He acknowledged the importance of AAU in the state’s educational landscape and praised the Governor’s proactive steps in revitalizing the institution.
Other members of the AAU Governing Council included Prof. Friday Okonofua, Prof. Steve Amiemenkharu, Hon. Lukman Muhammad, Prof. Idialu Jeremiah Uwaifo, Prof. Eric Kelly Inanemo Omogbai, and Prof. Omoruyi Ikponmwonsa Osahon.
Governor Okpebholo concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the continuous development of the university, with the goal of positioning AAU as a center of academic excellence once again.
