Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, described him as a revered statesman, a champion of social justice, and a leader who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Tuesday, Governor Okpebholo noted that Clark’s demise is a great loss not only to Edo State but to Nigeria as a whole.
“Today, Edo State mourns the loss of a true giant. Edwin Clark dedicated his life to the service of our region and our nation. His contributions as an advocate for education and a champion of social justice have left an indelible mark on our history. He was a man of integrity, vision, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of our society,” the governor stated.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that Clark was a mentor to many, whose wisdom and guidance shaped generations of public servants, young leaders, and community members.
“Edwin Clark’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the positive impact he had on everyone. We have lost a true treasure, but we are grateful for the time we had with him and the invaluable contributions he made,” he added.
Chief Edwin Clark, a former National Commissioner for Information and prominent leader of the South-South region, was known for his outspoken advocacy on national issues, particularly those concerning the Niger Delta. His passing marks the end of an era in Nigeria’s political and civil rights history.
His contributions to national development and the advancement of education, social justice, and regional empowerment remain a lasting testament to his legacy.
