Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has directed the Edo State Traffic Control Management Agency (EDSTMA) to tackle traffic gridlock and indiscriminate parking, particularly in market areas across the state.
Governor Okpebholo issued the directive during the decoration ceremony of Engr. Stainless Ijeghede as the new Managing Director of EDSTMA at the Executive Chambers of the Government House in Benin City.
Speaking at the event, the Governor stressed the need for EDSTMA to ensure the free flow of traffic and maintain orderliness in the state’s urban centers. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of traffic in the capital, blaming poor enforcement and indiscriminate vehicle parking for the challenges.
“Edo State belongs to all of us, and we should work to keep it orderly. Whenever I drive around, I see vehicles parked indiscriminately, especially in market areas, causing traffic gridlock. EDSTMA must wake up to its responsibility to ensure the city is clean, organized, and free of unnecessary obstructions,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
The Governor urged EDSTMA officials to redouble their efforts in monitoring markets and other busy areas, emphasizing that Edo residents are the ones bearing the brunt of the situation.
In response, Engr. Stainless Ijeghede expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to lead the agency and assured him of the team’s commitment to improving traffic flow and enforcing regulations across the state.
“We will carry out our duties professionally and ensure that there is a significant improvement in traffic management. The people of Edo State can expect better order and safety on the roads,” Ijeghede said.
The Governor’s call is expected to bolster EDSTMA’s operations and improve road conditions in Edo State.
