Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on students in the state to approach their education with curiosity, passion, and a commitment to excellence.
The Governor’s message was conveyed by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Barr. Onome Goodness Briggs, during the distribution of school bags to Junior Secondary One (JSS1) students of St. Maria Goretti Junior Secondary School, Benin City.
Barr. Briggs expressed gratitude to the MTN Foundation for its generosity in providing learning materials to students, acknowledging the donation as a boost to the state’s education sector.
“This is a message from Governor Monday Okpebholo to our students. He encourages them to make the most of these resources, learn with curiosity and passion, and strive for excellence in all that they do,” she said.
She further commended MTN Foundation for its commitment to education and its contribution to the governor’s vision of ensuring that no child in Edo State is left without access to quality education.
“This kind gesture is a testament to MTN Foundation’s dedication to supporting education and empowering young minds. These learning materials will undoubtedly enhance the teaching and learning experience, providing students with the tools they need to succeed,” she added.
The Senior Manager, Sales and Distribution at MTN, Alabi Olaniyi, speaking on behalf of the organization, stated that the initiative aims to equip students with essential learning materials to support their academic journey.
“We are committed to supporting education-related initiatives that contribute to the development of the sector and prepare students for success,” he said.
He formally handed over the donated items to the school management for onward distribution to students.
The event’s high point was the presentation of school bags to some students by Barr. Briggs, symbolizing the official distribution.
The Principal of St. Maria Goretti Junior Secondary School, Mrs. Dora Unnarhemhen, appreciated the MTN Foundation for choosing the school as a beneficiary.
“We also extend our gratitude to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his student-friendly education policies that continue to improve the standard of learning in Edo State,” she said.
