The Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has approved the appointment of Professor Adamu Abu Kasim as the new Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL).
A statement issued by Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the appointment of Professor Adamu Abu Kasim was in recognition of his track record of achievements as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, a position he occupied until his appointment.
The SSG stressed the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor is with immediate effect.
Parts of the letter reads “acting on the powers conferred on him by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Law establishing Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai No. 8 of 31st March, 2005, section 6 a and 4 a-d, His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Sani Bello, the Executive Governor of Niger State has approved your appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University with effect from 1st January, 2020. This appointment is for a single term of five (5) years”.
The statement added that Professor Adamu Abu Kasim is expected to bring his knowledge, administrative skills and wealth of experience to bear in the performance of his new assignment by working assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in him.
The statement urged the new Vice Chancellor to focus on full accreditation and physical development that would transform the University into a world class Institution.
Ahmed Matane pointed out that the new Vice Chancellor is enjoined to replicate and even surpass his performance as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration of the Institution, where he recorded tremendous achievements.
The Governor congratulated Professor Adamu Abu Kasim on the appointment and wished him success and God’s guidance in the performance of the arduous duties of his Office.
Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello further applauded the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Nasiru Maiturare for a successful tenure and enjoined him to give the new Vice Chancellor the necessary support to move the institution forward.
The new Vice Chancellor who is an indigene of Niger State was born in Dukku, Rijau Local Government Area of the State. He received his early education at Central Primary School, Dukku, he had his Secondary education at Government Science College, Kagara before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained B.Sc. Botany, M.Sc Botany and Ph.D, crop breeding from the same Institution.
Professor Adamu Abu Kasim is a member several professional bodies such as Botanical Society of Nigeria, Genetic Society of Nigeria, National Association of Nuclear Scientist and Science Teachers Association of Nigeria among others.
