Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has sworn in the newly elected 24 Local Government Chairmen with a strong call on them to collaborate with the state government to generate and boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in order to enable them to carry out their responsibilities.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held at Government House, Thursday, Governor Sani Bello drew the attention of the Chairmen to the financial challenges facing the state and urged them to work closely with the state government in order to facilitate increased revenue generation to enable them to meet up with the aspirations of the people.
“Let me draw your attention to the difficulties being faced in recent times with regards to funding and resources. This has called for a collaboration between the state government and the local government to find ways to generate more revenue so that we can carry out the affairs of governance.”
He explained that the Unified Tax System have been signed into law, hence the need for the state and local governments to work together so that they can boost and increase their tax and revenue base.
The Governor, then, appealed to the Chairmen to give the Niger State Board of Internal Revenue the maximum support as the reinvigorated revenue generation effort will be in the overall interest of the people.
Governor Sani Bello also tasked the new LG bosses to pay particular attention to the Primary Healthcare system, education and security in their various local government councils and ensure that they report to the appropriate authorities at the state level.
The oath of Office and Allegiance was administered by Justice Ishaku Usman on behalf of the State Chief Judge, Justice Aliyu Mayaki.
