In a renewed effort to tackle Nigeria’s food crisis, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured Nigerians of state governors’ commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agricultural reforms aimed at reducing food prices and ensuring food security.
Governor Okpebholo made this known on Wednesday after joining Vice President Kashim Shettima, fellow state governors, and National Assembly leaders on a New Year visit to President Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Governor Okpebholo described the President as deeply passionate about addressing the challenges facing Nigerians and commended his vision for the new year.
“We discussed extensively the food crisis affecting the nation and explored clear-cut solutions to bring food prices down. President Tinubu’s agricultural reforms are already being implemented across various states, and we, as governors, are committed to ensuring their success,” he said.
The governor revealed that the Edo State Government has allocated over ₦70 billion in its 2025 budget to address food insecurity. He highlighted plans to invest in mechanized farming and provide interest-free loans to market women as part of efforts to align with the President’s vision for agricultural transformation.
Governor Okpebholo also urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s reforms, emphasizing that they are aimed at addressing long-standing institutional challenges.
“The President’s plans are focused on creating a sustainable framework for development and ensuring a better future for all Nigerians. Together, we can overcome the current challenges,” he added.
