The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to upgrading the Union’s Secretariat and improving members’ welfare as key priorities for 2026.
Comrade Ike made the declaration on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, while receiving a delegation of stakeholders from the FCTA Chapel of the Union, who visited her office at Utako, Abuja, to pay New Year homage.
Appreciating the delegation for the gesture, which she described as a recognition of her administration’s efforts, the NUJ Chairman urged Council members to prepare for the financial investments required to execute the planned infrastructural upgrades. She stressed that these improvements are vital for repositioning the Council and enhancing operational efficiency.
“I was raised to give without keeping records. However, it is deeply touching to see that our modest efforts are being noticed and appreciated. This reinforces our resolve to do more,” Comrade Ike said.
Highlighting the administration’s commitment to member welfare, Comrade Ike noted the incremental approach her Council is taking.
“Last year, we distributed 10kg of rice, and we agreed there was no need to stagnate at that level. By taking incremental steps, we have now been able to provide 25kg of rice at this critical time,” she said.
The FCTA Chapel Chairman, Comrade Ngozi Ufomba, described the visit as an opportunity to appreciate the NUJ FCT Council for its positive impact on members’ welfare and overall wellbeing. She commended the administration for meeting members’ expectations and wished Comrade Ike and her Executive Council a successful and productive 2026.
Also speaking, Comrade Josie Mudasiru, former Chairman of the Credentials Committee during the 2021 NAWOJ Election in the FCT and Deputy Director of Information, FCTA, emphasized that the visit was a demonstration of genuine appreciation and solidarity with the Council leadership.
“Comrade Ike’s consistent, inclusive leadership and her outreach to members of the Union have been commendable,” Comrade Mudasiru said.
Other members of the visiting delegation, including Comrade Sarah Udogbo and Comrade Emmanuel Tortiv, highlighted the Chairman’s stabilizing leadership and ability to turn former critics into supporters.
“After the turbulence that marked your emergence, the environment is now stabilised, and the path is clear for greater achievements,” Comrade Tortiv said, praying for a year of expanded accomplishments and renewed grace for the Council leadership.
The visit was capped with the presentation of a New Year hamper to the NUJ FCT Council Chairman. Comrade Grace Ike was accompanied by her Vice Chairman, Comrade Ndambabo Yahaya, while members of the visiting delegation included Comrades Ngozi Ufomba, Josie Mudasiru, Kalu Emetu, Sarah Udogbo, Emmanuel Tortiv, Winnie Tanu, Obiageli Eze, and Nneka Enereulor.
